The professional licensing group is what creates the culture of responsibility. Most developers would be happy to have that as it would limit supply and increase wages considerably.

That's a lot of money for a buggy product that is at best slightly better than its competitors.


As far as I know it has never happened. On the contrary, when Alejandro Caceres admitted to ddosing North Korea - taking down all their public websites for a week - he was questioned by the FBI who decided to take no further action.

So hostile countries should be fair game for Americans who want a side-hustle. Plenty of Russian targets that could be profitable.


Doctors do that all the time though. That's why drugs are dispensed by a pharmacist who double checks it.


I don't think this is a fight doctors can win. We programmers make mistakes all the time.

At one place, we had a QA lead who was burned so many times she would insist that she will find the time to do at least a full smoke test even if we promised it was a small contained change in the frontend. I have no idea how she found the time because she wore multiple hats.
