Why would someone even use Safari instead of Chrome? Hell I would rather use Edge.

I recommend avoiding all chromium-based browsers in favor of either Firefox or Safari. Don't support a monoculture of browser engines. The more variety in browsers, the more power the end user has.

Chrome tears through RAM and battery

My personal M1 Mac mini doesn't even have Chrome installed on it, and won't.

My work MacBook has Safari as the default, with Chrome and Firefox installed but often not running.

Chrome is such an abysmal memory hog, and slower, that I would also rather use Edge, and now that you've reminded me it exists, I might install it.

Safari is noticeably faster and drains significantly less battery life. Those are big reasons. There’s also a lot of nice integration between desktop and mobile Safari if you use both a Mac and an iPhone.

1. Privacy

2. Battery

3. Performance

Your no. 1 reason is being questioned by the article, though.

Offering autofill (it's not actually automatically filling in) doesn't really violate privacy, does it? And if you don't want your browser to autofill passwords at all, then don't keep any passwords in its password store.

I occasionally use Safari to extend battery usage on a laptop. For me Chrome uses significantly more power.

Why would someone even use something that isn't Firefox.

Firefox feels too clunky and non-native in macOS. You'll notice it straight away
