I suggest also encouraging people to go donate whole blood, and signing up for the marrow program there. Maybe even help them find a collection place and set an appointment. Two birds, eh?

I've donated blood, platelets and (last year) 1 liter of bone marrow. As feel-good as it is to help a specific person against very large odds, blood and platelets help many more people.
