It used to be that it was possible to take a snapshot of a DO droplet without shutting down the droplet, provided the droplet had 1GB of ram or higher.
Does anyone know if this is still the case?

I don't know if that was ever the case, but at this point you do have to power off the droplet to make a snapshot:

You can take a "backup" without powering down, but not a "snapshot".
